Opinion: Ukraine, with its all-too-real, tragic and preventable casualties, is a product of the “post-truth” era.
The powers that be decide upon the narrative (Trump is Hitler; Covid is the end of the world; Biden is mentally competent; Putin is crazy, reckless and drunk with power) — and then report on it as though it were true.
As a result, many people believe it; after all, “why would the media lie?” Ordinary people are caught up emotionally in the messages they receive, and become brainwashed.
Being brainwashed, they are disturbed, even traumatized, when anyone “pops the bubble” and the narrative shatters.
